Start of the Autumn Term

Unfortunately, based on the government’s announcements this week about the return to school in September, we have had to change our dates for the beginning of term. We are required to carry out 2 lateral flow tests at school for students before they return and these tests need to be 3-5 days apart. As such, we have altered the start of term as follows:

  • Thursday 2 September – INSET Day
  • Friday 3 September – Student testing at school for all year groups
  • Monday 6 September – INSET Day
  • Tuesday 7 September – Student testing at school for all year groups
  • Year 7 students: Wednesday 8 September – Year 7 Induction Day. Our new Year 7s should be at school by 8:25am for an 8:30am start
  • Year 8 students: Wednesday 8 September - We would also like Year 8s to come into school after break time at 10:40am for a 10:45am start, to allow our new Year 8 students the opportunity to meet their PD tutor and their new Year 7 fellow tutees before the return of the rest of the school
  • Thursday 9 September – All students will return to school, meaning this will be the first day for Year 9-11 students. There will be a slight stagger to the day: Year 7 and Year 11 students will start at 8.30am in their PD (Tutor rooms) and Year 8 – 10 students are to start at 9.00am in their PD rooms

For the testing days, we plan to run them as we did in March, with students coming in to meet their tutor in groups of 4, being tested in an adjacent room and then leaving the site. These days ran really successfully and so we expect them to do so again in September. If you gave permission for the March tests, then we will keep that and assume that your position remains unchanged, unless you inform us otherwise. We will, of course, send more detailed information, including your child’s appointment time for their test before the end of term.

We appreciate that we’ve had to make last minute changes to our school dates and apologise for this late notice. If you are away on holiday for the Friday 3 September testing date, please don’t worry – when we email you with further details, we will ask if your child is available to attend and will mop up any students who can’t make the Friday due to holidays.

Thank you for your continuing support during another challenging transition year and let’s hope that Sunday provides us all an opportunity for celebration.
