Year 9 Options Process
Although there is still a large part of Year 9 to complete, we are now making plans for the curriculum which your son/daughter will follow in Years 10 and 11, starting after the May half term holiday. This will be the most significant phase of their education as they start their GCSE and/or equivalent qualifications.
During the next few weeks we will be holding a number of events to ensure that you and your son/daughter receive all the information, advice and guidance you may require in order to make the best decisions for the future. Students will receive plenty of information about the curriculum in school and have opportunities to raise questions and discuss their plans with their tutors and subject teachers. However, we believe that parents and carers should also play a vital part in these important decisions and we wish to keep you fully informed. The programme of events we have planned is outlined below.
Monday, 28 January – Information Evening – Main Hall
This will take the form of a briefing for parents and carers of Year 9 students. We will explain the curriculum structure for Years 10 and 11. In particular, we will make clear the range of choices which students have. There will be no need for students to attend, as they will receive a similar briefing during their PSE lessons.
In order to accommodate everyone, we will hold the meeting in 2 sessions:
6.00pm – 6.45pm for parents/carers of students in Simmonds, Murray and Ennis houses.
7.15pm – 8.00pm for parents/carers of students in Wiggins, Ainslie, Hoy and Farah houses.
We will also be publishing our guide booklet to the Year 9 curriculum and option forms at around this time.
Thursday, 7 February – 3.30pm – 7.30pm – Subject Evening
This is an opportunity to talk with your child’s subject teachers about progress. You will soon receive further information about this event and how to book appointments with your child’s teachers.
Thursday, 14 February - 6.00pm – 7.30pm Options Evening
This will provide an opportunity for you to find out more about the content of each course. You and your child will be able to talk to the staff who teach the various subjects and look at displays about the work that will be involved.
Subject displays and members of staff will be available in E and K blocks between 6.00pm and 7.30pm.
