Why we develop SMSC at Brookfield 

Our school ethos is promoted through a broad set of common values and purposes which underpin the school curriculum and our wider work. These include valuing ourselves, our families and other relationships, the wider groups to which we belong, the diversity in our society and the environment in which we live. We are committed to the virtues of truth, justice, honesty and a sense of duty. These common values are delivered through the themes of spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development which permeate all we do. In doing this we promote those British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, as described by the Department of Education.

By instilling and developing these values in our students, they will leave us as thoughtful, responsible, engaged members of society.

SMSC Spotlight 

During our Personal Development time tutor groups are challenged with issues which are topical, relevant and controversial. A range of information and views are made available to stimulate debate, and the groups’ views are shared via call-outs on a central noticeboard.
