Sports Day
BackDear Parents/Carers
We are writing to inform you of an update to this year’s Sports Day, due to take place on Wednesday 15 July. Due to the ongoing warm weather, we have adapted the format of the day to ensure the health and wellbeing of our students and staff while still allowing students to participate and support their Houses.
To reduce the amount of time students spend outside, Sports Day has been amended as follows:
- Period 1: Year 7 participants on the field.
- Period 2: Year 8 participants on the field.
- Period 3: Year 9 participants on the field.
- Period 4: Year 10 participants on the field.
- 600m and 800m events have been halved in distance in line with AFPE guidance to reduce longer distance events in warm weather.
- Time permitting, relay events will take place during Periods 1–4 and will no longer be held at the end of the day.
There will be no PD on this day and there will be an extended 30-minute break time and no lunch period. The school day will finish early at 1:00pm.
Unfortunately, due to the shortened timetable and weather conditions, there will not be a live Sports Day awards presentation on Wednesday. Instead, the awards will be recorded and shared with student via their end of term celebration assemblies.
The timings of the day are below:
Period 1: 8:30am – 9:30am (Year 7 events)
Period 2: 9:30am – 10:30am (Year 8 events)
EXTENDED BREAK: 10:30am – 11:00am
Period 3: 11:00am – 12:00pm (Year 9 events)
Period 4: 12:00pm – 1:00pm (Year 10 events)
Early Finish: 12.55pm for Year 7 and 8 students, 1.00pm for Year 9 and 10 students
This is always an exciting day for students and staff, and we would strongly encourage all students to bring plenty of water, sun cream, and a hat. Students should also ensure they stay hydrated throughout the day.
As usual for Sports Day, students may arrive at school dressed in House colours, with a £1 donation, to go towards the school’s chosen charities. Please may we remind students to dress suitably for sporting activities and to ensure they are wearing appropriate House colours clothing. We would also like to remind students that although we are encouraging the support of Houses, face paints and hair dye is not permitted. We would also like to remind you that our PE uniform does not permit cycling style shorts or Nike Pro shorts. PE shorts must cover most of the thigh and not be ‘skin-tight’. We have further information on our school website.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we make these adjustments to provide a safe and enjoyable Sports Day for all students.
Yours faithfully
Mr Ablitt
Subject Leader of PE
