Years 7 & 8 Curriculum - Design & Technology
Subject areas covered in Years 7 and 8 are Graphics and Resistant Materials on a rotation basis. They will study each subject for one term throughout the year.
Year 7:
Graphics project – Board Game (Under The Sea Theme)
Students will learn designing, design development, sketching and shading, evaluation and analysis.

- Material Properties
- Sources and Origins of Paper & Board
- Stock Forms, Types & Sizes of Paper & Board
- Print Finishes
- Materials & Their Working Properties
Resistant Materials project – Robot Project
Students learn sketching and shading skills, practical skills with use of tools, designing skills, health and safety knowledge, evaluation and analysis.
Core Theory Covered:
- Key Design & Technology Terminology
- Sources and Origins of Timber
- Materials & their Working Properties
- Health & Safety in the Workshop
- Tools & Jigs
- Commercial Processes
Year 8:
Graphics project – Pop-Up Greetings Card
Students learn sketching and shading skills, paper engineering skills, evaluation and analysis.
Core Theory Covered:
- Design & Technology Terminology with Examples
- Social, Moral, Spiritual & Cultural Issues
- Types of Motion & Force.
- Mechanisms
- Commercial Process - Die-Cutting
- Printing Processes
Resistant Materials project - Travel Maze Game
Students develop practical skills with use of tools, health and safety knowledge, electronics, 3D-Drawing.

- Design & Technology Terminology with Examples
- Types of Wood Joints
- Plywood & Manufactured Boards
- Stock Forms & standard Components
- Mechanisms
- Commercial Process – CNC Router
